Sweetwater Arts Celebration

1760: CHEROKEE VICTORY AT FORT LOUDOUN
August 6, 7 & 8, 2010, call 423-884-6217

This culminating event will commemorate the siege and surrender of Fort Loudoun to the Overhill Cherokee in August of 1760.  The program will consist of guided tours of the Little Tennessee River Valley, speakers and living history.

GUIDED TOURS:  Scheduled for August 6th, 7th and 8th.  The tours will depart from our neighboring institution, the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum and last approximately 2.5 hours.  Vans and drivers will be provided by Tennessee State Parks with guides provided by the Museum of the Cherokee Indian.  Stops are planned at the Cherokee village sites of Tanasi, Chota and Great Tellico plus a stop at the battle site of Cane Creek.  Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase on the vans.  Guided tour tickets are on sale now. Information and reservations can be obtained by telephone (423-884-6217) or in person at the Fort Loudoun Visitor Center.

Held on the grounds at Coker Creek Village, the two day event brings crafters, artists, food vendors, entertainers and more, from near and far. Over 70 artists and crafters were in attendance this year. Kids can take free wagon and horseback rides during the festival and visitors can watch a board splitting demonstration or try their hand at panning for gold or gems at the Coker Creek Village Visitors’ Center.

This event is designed to promote Boy Scouts in Monroe County, celebrate the 100th anniversary and to bring the community together in a fun-filled day focused on Outdoor Adventure. All kinds of outdoor vendors will be here from the surrounding area. SeaRay Boats, Coleman Outdoor Outfitters, National Guard Black Hawk helicopter, all kinds of adult hiking clubs, the new Tellico Outdoor Center (Outpost Pavilion) will be there with kayaks and canoes. We also hope to have the Monroe 4H Club, Llama packing teams, and other exciting groups. This event is organized by the Tellico Plains Troop 116 and Pack 116.
